Smok T-Priv Kit Review

The Smok T-Priv is a dual-battery mod that is reminiscent of the Chinese manufacturer’s most popular device ever, the X Cube 2. It utilizes the same style of firing bar and has a customizable LED sideshow, but only in a ever so slightly more compact package. The T-Priv has a higher power output than the X Cube 2; 220W compared to 180W. It has a much more impressive design, which does appear to have been inspired by The Transformers.

The T-Priv 220W can be purchased as a standalone vaporizer, or as part of a kit. If you are looking to get your hands on a discounted high quality tank, I would definitely recommend this package.

The T-Priv kit comes in the usual Smok packaging, which is a large rectangular box. On the front of the box is a picture of the T-Priv mod and the included Smok Baby Beast sub-ohm tank,  a short description, a list of the contents, and the usual warnings and legal information, on the back.

Inside the box, you’ll find the Smok T-Priv mod sitting snugly in a Styrofoam holder, and underneath, there is the Big baby Beast in matching colors, a micro-USB cable used for charging and firmware updates, an extra glass tube for the tank,  a couple of protective vape bands also for the tank, an extra coil-head, a bag of spare o-rings, and the user-manual. It is a very generous package.

The Smok T-Priv is absolutely not the most innovative vaporizer, as far as features go. It does however have all the options you’d expect on a new, modern high-power mod, but let’s be fair, it doesn’t really bring anything new to the table. It does manage to stand out due to a really cool design.

The mod measures 86.6 x 48.1 x 32 mm, which without a doubt, puts it in the mid-sized mod category. This mod has quite the girth, and because of its box-like shape, it is nowhere near as comfortable in your hand as some of SMOK’s other dual-18650 devices, such as the Alien 220, or the new Smok GX2/4. I personally prefer the rounded edges of these two mods compared to the classic box-like shape of the T-Priv. Many folks I know prefer the rugged squarish shape. I guess it’s just a matter of taste.

To be perfectly honest, back when devices like the Smok X Cube, the X Cube Mini, and the H-Priv  were launched, I was indeed a big fan of the box look myself, but the company kinda went and spoiled me with the ergonomically-perfect Alien. Since then, I just haven’t been as appreciative of the styling of the classic box mod. Probably the most distinctive design feature of the T-Priv are the cut-outs of the metal body on its three sides. They’re a big part of what actually gives this thing its Transformers-like look. There is however more to them than that. When the unit is turned off, the cut-outs will only reveal a white plastic casing. Press the fire bar just once and it’s on! You will see the cut-outs come alive with color.

Smok has replaced the classic power button with a side firing switch, or a firing bar, on pretty much all its mods, and the T-Priv 220W is right there.  This is very much a solid firing switch, especially when you compare it to the older Smok H-Priv, which worked great, but made this weird clunking sound when you went and pressed it. This new bar design doesn’t wobble one bit, and it makes a very discrete clicking noise as you press it.

The up and down buttons are located on the opposite side of the firing bar, very close to the top, to help make accidental presses as unlikely as possible.

Remaining true to its X Cube 2 roots, the T-Priv 220W has a top facing OLED display, and a clever cut-out that accommodates any atomizer up to 25 mm in diameter without you having to sacrifice any screen space.

Smok has been very consistent with its connections over the years, and the 510 connection is very solid. Literally, any atomizer that is up to 25 mm in diameter will sit flush on this unit, and you won’t have to worry about anything as far as not making contact properly goes, or the pin not having enough throw to it.

Lastly, the bottom-placed battery door is very much similar to that of the Smok Alien or even the newer iJoy Captain. It is very sturdy, and super-easy to open and close it. All you need to do is press down and slide it outwards to open it, and press it down and in to close it. It has polarity markings clearly on the inside, but if somehow you miss those, the bottom of the battery compartment is marked with two large plus and minus icons.
